AUSTELL — Junior quarterback Kylil Carter returned from a fourth quarter injury and led South Cobb to a game-winning score as the Eagles won their first game for coach Michael Youngblood in dramatic fashion, topping Kennesaw Mountain 34-28 Friday at Clay Stadium.

“We had lost two in a row and we came back home to eat,” said Carter. “Everybody was hungry and we got the win.”
The victory required a last-minute drive after the Mustangs (1-1) used a reverse to Dennis Bell for a 26-yard gain, setting up a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Nigel Hayes to tie the game at 28-28.
“It was a back and forth battle all night long,” said Youngblood. “We just made some plays that we hadn’t made the first two games.
“I’m just proud of these kids and the coaches for all the hard work and effort they’ve put in for us to finally get our first victory.”
