MABLETON – Whitefield ran through a banner that challenged the seniors to leave their legacy. Instead they played a game the small rain-soaked crowd at Wolfpack Stadium will want to forget.
Adam Rose scored five times, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns as Our Lady of Mercy (5-4, 3-3 in Region 5A) rolled to a 45-0 win before an estimated 500 on senior night.
“It was kind of like the weather – dreary and disappointing,” said Whitefield coach Jimmy Fields. “Thankfully we’ve got four more quarters to play because we’re a much better football team than we played (Friday).”
You can blame it on the rain for a sloppy first quarter, but a 58-yard punt return by Rashard Fant got the Bobcats into the red zone.
They capitalized three plays later when Adam Rose ran in from 6 yards out. The senior running back would score again midway through the second quarter as OLM increased its lead to 14-0.
