NORTH – 3

No one in the locker room cares about the hundreds of unread pages that senators, representatives and the President signed into law. But everyone made note that minor leaguers can’t argue for a living wage.

At some point, everyone’s played in the minors. Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Mickery Mantle played in the minors. It’s a rite of passage for all of us.

Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be treated like Americans.

It’s already a subgegated testing ground where everyone else around the team is paid like a regular citizen, but the players are getting paid nothing for 60- and 70-hour work weeks.

But when you’re there, you can’t complain or you might be out of a job.

So no one complains about the pay or the gadgets and gimmicks they try on us like the test subjects we are.

Luckily, I was already with the big club full time when the pitch clock was introduced to the minor leagues. It doesn’t scare me much since I’m usually ready to throw, but the newest change is just stupid.

Any game reaching the 10th inning will begin with a runner at 2nd base.

For a sport founded on its history, this is a slap in the face and for what? To appease a casual fan to appreciate more than what they paid for?

As a gimmick, it’s reminencent of Bill Veeck making Max “the Clown Prince of Baseball” an actual coach and sending 3-foot-7 Eddie Gaedel to pinch hit. Both of these “atrocities” were in actual Major League games.

Veeck also signed Larry Doby, the first black player in the American League, and Satchel Paige, the oldest rookie in history. You can read more about both players in Cooperstown.
