REALITY
I shouldn’t even be out here today.

I pitched a mop-up inning three days ago, but ran into a buzz saw that was the opposing team’s bench.
After the first out, the next three batters all worked me to a full count. I walked two of the three and was facing actual trouble, but got the next batter to ground out to third and end the inning.
We flew out of town and yesterday, I pitched two innings. No runs scored, but there were long at bats and a couple of soft singles.
According to the stat heads, I shouldn’t even be out here today.
I’m not the only guy in the bullpen. There are a couple of other guys, some that might need the work as well.

With my stuff, allowing a team to see me twice in the same series has a 38% chance of…OK, I don’t really know the stats. But I’m sure there’s a stat out there that goes against using me today.
A stat that says I shouldn’t even be out here today.
But that stat didn’t appeal to our front office guys or the pitching coach. It certainly didn’t effect Skip. He made the call.
And if he made the call, it’s the right one; regardless what my conscience says.
