Between changing clothes, the pre-game rituals before taking the field and everything that happens after the game ends; we’re actually in the locker room for more time than the average fan can imagine.

The time in there gives the observant eye a chance to see who is best equipped to pick up the next bar tab, who will be asking teammates for money in a decade and who’s wearing their money.

It’s a phrase I picked up during a stint in the Southern League, but it’s evident across the country, likely around the world. It describes someone who feels it’s important to show everyone just how much they have at all times.

It’s a mentality that I’ve never understood, especially in the minor leagues where the highest paid players were only around for a few weeks and everyone else was making minimum wage rates from the 1950s in the 21st century.

It’s an epidemic that is on display thanks to the advent of digital cameras, but it’s something that’s been around way before Gavrilo Princip took out Sophie and Franz Ferdinand.
