I’ve not been black enough for a while now. In fact, you could say I’ve not been black enough all my life.
I love and play a sport that is thought to be dominated by white men in a country where another sport is dominated by black men and for some reason that’s important.
I’ve not been to England, but while other supporters might shout racial slurs if a member of Spurs was leading them to them the Premiership title, Tottenham faithful would sing his praises.

But in this country, color matters. Well, in this hemisphere since Hispanics come in all kinds of color, from sun-tinted ivory to deep mocha.
But unless and until you speak, one can be placed in places they don’t belong.
It’s a middle school mentality, generalizing what you don’t know and taking comfort in making others feel marginalized. Of course we didn’t know what we were doing then..,
But too many keep that mindscape and never evolve into something better, something more enlightened with facts and experience. Instead, they double down on what wasn’t clear and make that their Scripture.
And ponder starving people in foreign lands while they throw away food.
