Pasttime – 69

Skip said he may start me during this next road trip, but it’s dependent upon the weather. Which means there’s rain expected and a rain out may force an adjustment to the rotation.

Rain Delay antics

It’s not the most encouraging support from a superior, but it’s a possibility. Then again, it’s not like…

Wait a second.

If he’s thinking about starting me then he’s likely not going to use me from the pen unless absolutely necessary.

Which means I’ll likely the last man in the pen. Which has me thinking where I’ll sit.

Finding the place where you fit in doesn’t stop just because you’re no longer in middle school, where the wrong seat can “label you for life”, or high school, where the wrong seat can “alter your existence forever”.

Finding the right seat reappears in college. Do you sit up close and look like a kiss-ass? Do you sit in the back to ‘be cool’? Do you sit in the middle for the room’s best acoustics?

Do you truly care?

There’s also that. There are those who plot their own course and sit wherever they want, making others adjust to their wake in the water.

But to hang out in the dugout would be weird. I’m a bullpen guy. I know all the jokes, the best views and how to properly kill time.

The true alternative is to do a half and half; picking a random time in the middle innings to walk from one to the other and give our TV/radio guys something to talk about to fill a little time before the next ad.

And these are my first thoughts – where will I sit today, not the fact that Skip is thinking about starting me again.

Either choosing your seat is important or I’ve got something else on my mind.
