Film sessions are mandatory and necessary. I try to take mine as soon as possible to remember the mindset of the at-bat. That and the catchers and coaches seem to appreciate getting the long man off their schedule.
I’d returned to the bullpen and this was my first appearance. That’s no excuse to start off with a ball upstairs, but I responded back with a fastball that shocked the batter.
I got ahead in the count and forced a pop up to the left side for the first out.
I made my first mistake to the next batter. Travis and I watch my inside change float uselessly too far inside to do anything but be a wasted pitch. Got a fastball fouled off and then tried a chase change up low.
A check swing that was clearly a tell was the result. Fastball outside to get the count even and then I returned to the chase change. The batter flailed at it for the second out.
The next batter was lower in the order, but had a lot of power. I remember having a strategy for this, but he hit a ground ball to short on the first pitch and I was out of the inning.
Next frame I came out confident, starting the first two batters with fastballs up in the strike zone. Leadoff chased upstairs and filed out to center field, but the following batter was tougher.
