Pasttime – 73

I’m ahead in the count thanks to the high fastball, but my chase change low is being fouled off. I knew this was a winning combination against this batter, so I stuck with it.

The first two chase pitches weren’t the best, but effective. Batter fouled each of the off with little effort, flicking it away but knowing they had to swing. Looking back on his swings in the video room, he was ‘wasting’ my pitch in hopes of a better one.

I was ahead 0-2 and went too high up and away for ball one. It was the same pitch I missed with a previous batter and while an effective pitch, I don’t have a great feel for the success rate. Maybe it’s something that will work with a slider…

I’m throwing a really good chase change and the foul offs are more out of desperation than anything else. But the last one was the best since he was literally frozen in place, watching it sail right across the plate for strike three.

I never try to show anyone up, but it’s a great feeling to walk off the mound and have the batter still trying to get himself together.

Same results with the next batter, except without the foul offs which made it a much quicker at bat. I see my attempt to throw the fastball low and still don’t see why the umpire didn’t call it a strike.

This time, the strike out was not being able to catch up to a high fastball. This was perfect since their best hitter would bat with no one on base.
