I’ve never gotten nervous about being traded. Maybe that’s because I’ve never been traded. I’m not and never was that big of a deal; just good enough to stick around and bad enough that no one wanted me.
OK, I don’t really believe that last part. But I do believe that regardless, the faster everyone remembers (or realizes) that all sports are a business first, second and third, the faster we get along with our day and pay attention to important stuff.
That’s a mantra to the players as well, from the highest paid to the backup middle infielder on a Single-A team. If you are getting paid, it’s a job.
If it’s a job, then it’s part of a business. Simple as that.
I gave some money and paid attention to what eventually resulted in the “Save America’s Pasttime bill”, a piece of legislation that was stuffed into 45’s budget bill back in 2017.
The long and the short of it is minor league players can be paid less than minimum wage, not get paid for mandatory training sessions like Spring Training or off-season workouts and Congress is cool with it.
Therefore the American people are cool with it.
And the sad fact of the matter is, they are.
