I’ve done it so many times, it’s not really a thought anymore. However there’s a technique to packing a getaway bag.
Or at least, I’ve developed a technique that I’m pretty happy with. It’s something that frequent business travelers and well-worn young adults that bounce around from couch to couch to avoid sleeping at their parents’ home should be well aware of.
At least the ones that don’t wear out their welcome too soon.
I always felt that if you’re not staying long, you should make it your mission to make sure the resident never feels like you’re planning to stay long. In fact, the best getaway bags are basically self-sufficient. One should be able to live out of the bag with the lone requirement being running water to get clean.
Luckily, I started by bouncing around couches while searching for places to pitch when I was younger and between the uncertainty of my employment, my lack of funds and my lack of general knowledge; I learned early on to make sure I could always grab and go at any moment.
Like multiple rappers, apply the classic line from ‘Heat’ and be packed to move within 30 seconds.
