Sometimes the best pitch can be a surprise, even if it’s not executed correctly.
It happens all the time and while catchers frame and announcers coo, it all starts with planning.
Coach was going over the general plan for the weekend series and mentioned how they hadn’t truly seen a good change up away.
I thought that nearly impossible, but watched the tape and had to agree.
Obviously, the batters have seen that pitch before. It’s not something new; they just hadn’t seen it in a while.
It was almost a race to see who would throw it first.
Our No. 1 used it with good results and I was lucky enough to to have to follow.
But the next night I came into a quiet situation in the 6th inning and moseyed through the first two batters…
Leaving the change for the third guy, stalking off the mound after the release in complete assurance it wouldn’t be touched, only admired afterwards.
