Pasttime – 113

So the All-Star Game is a bust, regardless if Home field for the Series is on the line.

I mean, it’s great to see the game’s best in one place; to showcase their skills for one night. And that’s why the home run derby has to go.

OK, I know it will never go, but they could add another event. One that showcases skills.

“What kind of an event could do that?” you ask. Well, I’m here to tell you.

I believe the triple is the most exciting play in the game. You have a ball in play, so there’s constant movement. You have a runner going as fast as he can. You have an outfielder looking to make a play.

With each step, the crowd picks up their excitement. “This Guy is still running!” “Will he turn for third base?”

With anticipation, the crowd starts scanning back and forth between the runner and the location of the ball. “Does he have it yet?” “He’s going to have to hurry if he’s going to get him.”

The throw from outfielder is the true draw. It’s where baseball gets to show off its native roots.

It returns to something as simple as hurling a projectile at a moving object.
