Don’t Blink

While searching for PTI on the ESPN App, I noticed that ESPNU, three curves away from The Ocho, was broadcasting high school girls basketball.

It didn’t say the teams, but then again did it really need to? You know exactly what you’re getting with girls high school basketball. And upon reading that phrase a second time, you too have made an opinion about exactly what you would expect with high school girls basketball.

Even if that decision was to ignore it like all the businesses and homes you drive past in any large metro area. It wasn’t a thought, it was only the momentary glance you afforded it to know you were moving on immediately. But of course I stopped, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading something mentioning high school girls basketball for the fourth time in less than 140 words.

I wanted to see just how good the athletes playing had to be for the Worldwide Sports Leader to broadcast the game at 6 p.m. when the viewership should rise with people coming home from work.

Watching high school girls basketball was something I did for employment and I loved it. Well, I loved the reporting side of it. I loved the concept and idea behind a small town newspaper, where everything local is can become news and worthy of some of your time. I can remember saying, believing that it was something that would never die.

That local businesses would always want to advertise locally, like door to door locally. That there would always be a means to distribute coupons and the supermarkets would help back that up as well. So even in the age of digital marketing and 1st page Google results for your website, there’s something to be said for holding something in your hand, even for a moment.

Or is that what I say to believe that that life still can exist. The path I was on, if I remained on it by any means, would still exist. And yes, it would be different with blogs and social media. But in the essence, it’s still the same. I want that live to exist because when initially put to a cross, that was the road I choose.

There were other options, which there always are. I have to believe the paths I recall would be…paths that I can make up scenarios for at the time, but could never really tell. I mean, a Army JAG attorney living close to a federal sector or someone very deep into the pharmaceutical game, investing early in vape shops and more as laws change in the Northwest part of this country.

The possibility is the main thing. I had a path to take and intended to stay down it. I was going to follow through and that would be that. That is what previous generations have done with regularity, regardless of the age. But age is the key, since it’s decided young…
